New requirements for safety switches
The Department of Industrial Relations has recently made a number of changes to the Electrical Safety Regulation 2002 relating to requirements for safety switches in Queensland rented domestic residences.
The changes aim to give tenants of domestic residences the same level of protection as owner occupiers.
From 1 March 2006, owners of rented domestic residences must have a safety switch installed for the power circuit of the residence within six months of a residential tenancy agreement being entered into, or by 29 February 2008 (whichever is the sooner).
After 1 March 2008, owners of rented domestic residences must have a safety switch installed for the power circuit of the residence.

PAMD Act changes.
The Property Agents and Motor Dealers Act 2000 has been reviewed. Industry and other stakeholders were provided with the opportunity to comment on the effectiveness of the Act. As a result amendments to the Act were passed by Parliament in March 2006.
The amendments further strengthen consumer protections, promote industry performance and ensure fairer outcomes for consumers and traders.
The changes affect real estate agents, property developers, motor dealers, auctioneers, commercial agents, property marketeers, pastoral houses and resident letting agents.
